Each player is a general to retreat his soldiers in mists of battle.
Objective
To retreat all soldiers on hand/ to have the minimum number of soldiers on hand when enemy attacks.
Setup
i) Shuffle the deck and deal 5 cards to each player.
ii) Split the rest of the to 2 equal deck (deck 1 and deck 2)
iii) Insert the “enemy attack” card into deck 1 and shuffle
iv) Place deck 1 face down
v) Place deck 2 on top of deck 1 to form the draw pile.
vi) Turn over the top card and place it at the side to form the open pile.
vii) Start game.
How to Win
Retreat as many soldiers as possible on your hand. The first player to have zero soldiers on hand before the “enemy attack” card is drawn wins the game and the player with the most number of soldiers on hand loses the game.
Alternatively, when a player draws the card above the “enemy attack” card, it is the last round of the game starting from the next player. In this last round, any player may pick up the “enemy attack” card.
The player who picks up the “enemy attack” card and has the minimum number of soldiers on hand wins the game. If the player does not have the minimum number of soldiers, he lost.
However, if no player picks up the card in the last round, the game ends as the turn ends for the player who draws the card above the “enemy attack” card.
Turn Order
1. Start and end your turn
Discard a card from your hand and draw a card either from the top of the draw pile or from the top of the open pile. (at any turn, each player must at least draw a card from either the top of the draw pile or from the top of the open pile) After done so, the turn passes on to next player and continues until the game ends.
2. Discarding more than 1 card a turn
You may discard 2 or 3 cards during your turn if the cards are the same. (i.e. you may discard 3 “Attack” cards that you have on hand.)
However, for the yellow, red and green cards, you may discard 3 cards during your turn when you have 3 different cards from the same color. (i.e. you may discard 3 yellow cards if they are “Recruit convert”, “Know your enemy” and “Deception”.)
3. Total Cards
(Blue) 1 Soldier x 24 - represents 1 soldier at end of game.
(Blue) 2 Soldiers x 12 - represents 2 soldiers at end of game.
(Green) 3 Soldiers x 10 - represents 3 soldiers at end of game.
(Yellow) Advisor x 8 - total no. of soldiers on hand multiply by 2 at end of game.
(Red) 2 Scroll x 4 - the next player may only discard 1 card but must draw 2 cards from the draw pile.
(However, next player may put the same card to carry on the effect of the card to the player after his/her turn. When game ends, this card represents 2 soldiers)
(Red) 1 Scroll x 4 - the next player may only discard 1 card but must draw 1 card from draw pile. (When game ends, this card represents 1 soldier)
(Red) Empty terrain x 2 - represents zero soldier at end of game.
